Description

Older engines with flat tappets and lifters require an oil additive known as ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl-Dithio-Phosphate). ZDDP is a surface modifier that alters bearing and journal surface characteristics to prevent metal-to-metal contact especially at extreme pressure points such as where the cam lobes contact the tappet faces. ZDDP is a surface modifier that alters bearing and journal surface characteristics to prevent metal-to-metal contact. Under conditions of increased heat and pressure, the ZDDP molecule quickly plates over the contact surface with an extremely thin glass-like film and provides a sacrificial coating. This action prevents the lifter and cam from making contact and greatly reduces the tendency of parts to scuff and gall.
As soon as the engine conditions get back to normal, the film dissipates back into the oil solution

Before 1988, ZDDP was found in all quality motor oils but because it damages catalytic converters, it is no longer added to current automotive motor oils and because modern engines, with roller tappets, do not require ZDDP. One 4-ounce bottle of this product poured into a typical 5-quart oil sump brings the ZDDP back to the level found in SF rated oils avialable in 1988 and works with any motor oil you’re currently using, including synthetics. Its effective for the entire length of the oil change cycle

Every vintage 4-stroke marine engine regardless of brand, should be using a ZDDP additive at every oil change

The bottles feature a child proof cap and proper warnings for its use. The product has a long shelf life as long as it’s kept sealed and stored where temperatures do not exceed 120 degrees. DO NOT USE ON ENGINES WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
